7/12/26 GGP

Somehow we had more people out for this game than the doubleheader last week?  Make that make sense.  A beautiful day, perfect weather, 13-13 teams, and a heavy metal kegger on display were just some of the great things about our game.

As has become MBC tradition, it was another Satch vs. Sean match up.  With that many players, we knew that a CG was out of the question, but still, we gave it all we could. The visitors jumped out to 2-0 lead quickly, we responded with a run.  They tacked on two more and we...didn't.  I felt alright pitching, but I think the previous week was still taxing my frame a bit, and I had some shaky deliveries.  Sean looked like he always does, bringing the funk and the junk, and keeping us off balance.

There was a lot of power on the visiting team, I had been warned about Damien, a Cuban player that had been knocking down walls the last few times he came out.  I managed to keep him in check, but it was one hitter after the next, and then Ed would get up and hit some lazy infield fly placed perfectly between everyone, and so on.

Luckily, we had scouted the prospective teams enough to get the three ROYs on our team, and they helped tremendously.  After we brought the game to within one run, the visitors pulled ahead again, and made it 6-3.  Aaron then tattooed a ball to right center that went past everything, and just like that, the game was tied. We didn't used to rely on the 3-run HR in this game, but a fella could get used to it. In addition to their bats, the ROYs also pitched great, caught great, and Aaron had a 2-inning save.

Into the bottom of the 9th, Greg on the mound, promising us he can find a way to mess things up. Anna gets a hit, makes it to 2nd, and then is almost caught at home on a double by Mike Lynch.  Luckily, the throw was off line, and she scored and that was the ball game!

Final: 7-6, Homers

Highlights

* Great team win!

* Powell came within about 10 feet of an automatic HR, but ended up with a impressive triple.

* Patrick went full Eric Byrnes in center field and almost had an insane catch

* Anna scored the winning run, but her defense was just as good, she came off several times to grab throws and still get the tag on

* Mitch brought out some teenage nephew that knew what he was doing

* Good to see McG out again!

* Lynch made an amazing snare at 3rd on a tricky ground ball

* HR was on a short leash when he took the mound but did very well

* When the young guys are on the mound, a lot more foul balls near the dugouts become potential outs

* Nick Smith caught a line drive at 1st that was scorched!

* Connor felt lost on the diamond, with a ball through the wickets and a in-and-out of the glove fly ball.  He kept his composure though, and ultimately was successful, making a great throw from left for an out

* We need to work on our pickle defense

* We have decided that Naldony is much faster than he looks, and HR is much slower
