A poor showing on a shit day. End of recap.
Ok a little more. We had 13 brave souls on a gray, cold day and there was no parking anywhere near the field. What the hell did we do to put piss off the parking gods?
We were stuck at 11.5 with Anna's nephew who wanted to play but didn't want to play. Nico showed up to at least give us a chance at a semblance of a game.
Havana 6s as it's known. Two outfielders, borrow 2. Not for the faint of heart.
Sean and I faced off again, and the results were about the same. I threw 5 innings, had 5 Ks and gave up 4 earned runs. Sean did better than me in every category and threw more innings. I bowed out and Patrick took over for mop up duty and managed a strong outing. Jacob finally talked Sean into leaving the bump, and did well.
A pettier man than I would have questioned why we had Powell, Sean, Mitch, Naldony, Jacob and JT on one team. Seems like there was a rule at some point about that collection not being allowed.
We kept the score close for a bit but with the above-mentioned group there is only so much you can do. Early scored were 2-0, 2-2, 4-2, 4-3. Not bad for what it looked like on paper.
Eventually the score went lopsided, it got colder and wetter, so we stopped after 7, our team going down in order, after Patty snapped a perfect tweener at 3rd, which was great except he was covering for the other team at the time. Who hit that, anyway?
Final score, 9-3?, Homers.
Highlights
* Special thanks to Leo for covering right field, making a couple of great plays including throwing out his own aunt at 1st (!) and pinch running for many of us. Great job kid!
* Sean, another solid outing, hope you get your bonus this year.
* Thanks to Nico for making us legit, and selling out on a couple of difficult fly balls
* It's a great feeling as a pitcher having Mitch covering defense for you. Probably the opposite of what pitchers feel when I'm out there.
* My new version of calling for a fly ball - "Oh shit, I guess that has to be me."
* The hole in the landing spot on the mound could be described as Canyon-esque. All the mound dirt was fine as bone dust. Not fun.
* Unsurprisingly, Mitch, Powell and Sean accounted for about 7 runs
* Line drive to third, double play was much needed in one of my rough innings.
